The Penguins made big news yesterday by signing forward Jeff Carter to a two-year contract extension at a salary cap-friendly $3.25 million per season. The 37-year-old acquired last season from the L.A. Kings was thought to be considering retirement as he neared the end of an eleven-year contract originally signed in 2010 when he was playing for the Flyers. Carter has twelve goals and 14 assists in 36 games this season.
The Penguins play back-to-back games tonight and tomorrow night, hosting the Seattle Kraken and the Detroit Red Wings. They will then play their fifth game in eight days on Sunday against the Kings before returning to Eastern Conference opponents next Tuesday against the rival Capitals.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the heavy schedule requires the Pens’ coaches to closely watch the players for signs of fatigue.
Sidney Crosby scoffed his 497th career goal on Tuesday against Arizona. Sullivan says Crosby’s all-around greatness is an inspiration to his teammates.
Sullivan says Crosby deserves to be held in the same high esteem as Penguins legend Mario Lemieux.
The airtime tonight for the Penguins and the Kraken is 6:00 on 92.5 FM U92.
