Still smarting from their losses Monday night at UPJ, the IUP basketball teams are back in action tonight with a doubleheader against Edinboro at the KCAC.
The 4th-ranked men are 15-2, 9-2 and in second place in the PSAC West. Edinboro is 5-9, and 3-6 in the PSAC.
The men moved into the top five of both national polls yesterday, up two notches to number four in the coaches poll and up one to number three in the media poll. Monday night’s loss at UPJ was not reflected in the polls. IUP is also number one in the sports information directors’ Atlantic Region ranking for the second straight week and eighth time this season. West Liberty is second, Fairmont State third, UPJ fourth, and Charleston fifth.
The IUP women slipped to number 21 in the nation in the coaches poll. Again the ranking does not reflect Monday’s loss to UPJ. The Crimson Hawks enter the game tonight at 11-4, and 5-4 in the PSAC. Edinboro is 8-5 and 6-4 in the conference.
IUP will play a fifth straight game without leading scorer Courtney Alexander, who was injured in their December 19th win over Shippensburg, a game in which she scored a career-high 31 points and hit nine three-pointers.
A win tonight would be the 800th in IUP women’s basketball history.
Pregame tonight for the women’s game is 5:15. Tipoff is at 5:30, with the men’s game to follow.
