On Tuesday, the River Valley School Board unanimously approved the Act I resolution.
The resolution says that the board will not raise taxes above the state-mandated limit, which for River Valley is 4.7 percent. Board president Rick Harper said that over the past few years, the district has been successful in keeping tax increases to a minimum.
In other business, the board approved by a 5-4 vote to authorize Remington and Vernick Engineers to proceed with the development of a 2D conceptual design of an athletic complex and baseball and softball fields with the cost capped at $25,000. This is the first step in the design process for the proposed football field and other areas, and cost estimates coming at $6 million for the entire project. Board member Beverly Carnese felt that the money would be better spent on the students.
Carnese, Nathan Baird, Jessica Clawson and Melanie Pantalone each voted no for the conceptual design.
