The state department of corrections has announced that in-person visits at all state prisons, including S-C-I Pine Grove in Indiana, are temporarily suspended due to the surge of Covid-19 cases.
In-person visits will be suspended from January 27th through February 28th to allow facilities to effectively allocate staff during the surge. Acting corrections secretary George Little said that quarantine requirements for Covid-positive staff and close contacts of those who tested positive “have lead to an increased reliance on voluntary and mandated overtime that is not sustainable.”
Recreation, education and access to other programming offered by the department of corrections will continue, and will not be impacted by the visitation suspension. Also, the number of no-cost video visits will increase.
Those who scheduled an in-person visit after January 27th will receive a cancellation letter or email.
