The hiring of Frank Cignetti Jr. to be Pitt’s offensive coordinator renews a family tie to Pitt football that could be topped only by the family’s connection to IUP.
Cignetti Jr. returns to Pitt for a third time, having been a graduate assistant to Mike Gottfried and the offensive coordinator for Dave Wannstedt.
His brother, Curt, coached for Foge Fazio, Johnny Majors, and Walt Harris at Pitt, and even Frank Cignetti Sr. has coached at Pitt, from 1966 to 1968 under then-coach Dave Hart.
Frank Cignetti Jr. was officially announced as Pitt’s new offensive coordinator on Friday. He was the OC at Boston College for the past two seasons.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Here’s a college football note with a strange twist. Former Georgia wide receiver Jermaine Burton is transferring to Alabama. Georgia beat Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship two weeks ago.
