With the spring primary just months away, the battlegrounds have formed in the state gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races. For governor, two Republican caucuses yesterday held their straw polls, with Lou Barletta coming out on top in the Northeast and Northeast Central polls, although businessman Dave White actually had more first place votes in the Northeast Central. Jeff Bartos took the top spot in both polls for U.S. Senate.
Last week, White was the choice for governor and Bartos for Senate in the Central region caucus. The Western and Southeast caucuses still have to hold their straw polls before the state committee meeting on February 5th.
Attorney General Josh Shapiro controls the Democrat race for governor, while four candidates are in the field for Senate, with the front-runners being Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman and Congressman Connor Lamb.
