Bitter cold temperatures have hit Indiana County to start the weekend.
The low temperature recorded this morning at the Pennsylvania American Water Company’s Twolick Filter plant showed temperatures at -9 this morning. While there is no snow to report of, conditions will be bitterly cold, and that could cause frostbite.
The National Weather Service recommends that people stay inside for the worst part of the cold snap. If you have to go out, make sure your car has a winter-based emergency kit. Also, check the antifreeze levels and if your heater/defroster is working. Also, familiarize yourself with water shutoff points in case of water line breaks, and bring any pets inside.
If you do have to go out, make sure you are dressed for the conditions. That includes layers of loose fiitting, lightweight, warm clothing and a hat. Mittens are usually recommended over gloves and cover your mouth to protect your lungs from the extreme cold.
