Pitt made it official Friday by announcing the hiring of Indiana, PA native Frank Cignetti Jr. as their new offensive coordinator.
For the last two seasons, he has been the OC for Boston College. He was also the Panther’s Offensive Cordinator and Quarterback’s coach in 2009 and 2010 The Indiana High grad, who was named recently to the Indiana County Sports Hall of Fame, played his college football at IUP and was an All-PSAC safety.
After graduation he was a graduate assistant at Pitt under Mike Gottfried, then coached with his father at IUP from 1990 to ’98. Cignetti spent 11 years coaching in the NFL with the Chiefs, 49ers, Rams, Giants, and Packers, and has been an offensive coordinator with the Rams, IUP, Pitt, Fresno State, North Carolina, California, Rutgers and Boston College.
He takes over for Mark Whipple, who left for the OC’s position with Nebraska.
