Pitt held Virginia to a total of 17 points in the game’s first 17 minutes, but the Panthers’ fell apart after that, and the Cavaliers came on to win the game, 66-61, last night.
Virginia got hot from the field and the Panthers gave them far too many open looks, while Pitt buckled up its offense, attempting only six three-pointers in the game, of which they made only one.
John Hugley led Pitt with 23 points while battling Virginia’s 7-foot-1-inch Francisco Caffaro and 6-11 Kadin Shedrick.
The Panthers play at Clemson on Saturday evening.
