The Pennsylvania Department of Health has released the latest flu statistics for both the state and for Indiana County.
The report represents statistics collected until January 15th. Indiana County’s flu case total went up 20 cases over the previous week to a total of 186 lab-confirmed cases. Only six new cases of type A flu were reported over the last week while the remaining 14 cases were classified as type B flu. There are now 47 type B flu cases in Indiana County.
Across the state, there are 28,475 total lab-confirmed cases, which is an increase of only 2,332 cases over the week. 2009 new type A flu cases were reported, bringing the total of type A cases to 26,132. 321 new type B flu cases were reported, making the total for the flu season so far 2329. The state also reported two new cases of type U flu.
The pace of new lab-confirmed flu cases has slowed down in the state, as it is doing across the United States. The state has also seen 16 flu-related deaths over the year so far, an increase of two from last week. Emergency department visits associated with influenza-like illness has decreased slightly over the week, but it is still higher than where it was last year.
