The Penguins dug themselves a deep hole last night and climbed all the way out of it for a win in Las Vegas.
Paul Steigerwald has the story.
Coach Mike Sullivan says his veterans knew the game wasn’t over when they fell behind.
Jason Zucker’s two-goal game came in his return from long-term injured reserve. Sullivan says he expected Zucker to have a good game after celebrating his 30th birthday and returning to his hometown.
The coach likes Zucker on a line with Evgeni Malkin and Kasperi Kapanen.
Forward Jeff Carter says the Penguins took a while to get their act together, and it took the entire team to get the job done.
Carter says all-in-all, it was a good road trip even though the Penguins did not play as well as they could have.
In addition to Zucker’s return, the Penguins had Bryan Rust back from the covid-19 list.
Forward Drew O’Connor was placed on the long-term injured reserve list with an undisclosed injury. Forwards Kasper Bjorkqvist and Radim Zohorna were put on the taxi squad and defensemen Juuso Riikola was assigned to Wilkes-Barre Scranton.
The Penguins return home to PPG Paints Arena to play Ottawa on Thursday, followed by a game Friday in Columbus.
