Indiana Borough Police are warning people about a text-based scam that is making its way through the community.
Police say on Friday, a resident of Indiana Borough received an official-looking text message from what appeared to be their bank about a $2000 transaction made. The text directed them to reply “no” to report the fraud. After responding to the text, a second text was sent informing the victim of an incoming phone call. The caller, identified only as a female voice, tried to obtain the online banking username and password to stop the transaction. The victim did not provide the information and ended the call.
Residents are reminded to keep their financial information and their login information, including passwords, private and protected.
