First responders were busy yesterday with two fires reported in Indiana County on Thursday.
Indiana County 911 dispatched Black Lick, Blairsville, Homer City and Coral-Graceton fire departments, along with Citizens Ambulance, to the fire at 5:00 last night. When Black Lick fire crews arrived, they discovered the structure on fire was an old pool shed that was repurposed as a chicken coop near the intersection of Barrondale Road and Old Indiana Road in Josephine. Fire crews also found out that the homeowner had put most of the fire out, but there were still some hot spots.
No injuries were reported. No chickens were hurt. The fire was caused by a heating lamp that fell over and burned through the floor. Firefighters credit the homeowner’s efforts to put out the fire in preventing it from spreading further.
Another fire was reported on Thursday in North Mahoning Township. Marion Center, Plumville, Perry Township, Rural Valley and Dayton fire crews were called out for what was initially reported as a vehicle fire at a home along Route 210 in North Mahoning Township. Marion Center fire officials say that there was a second call that the house had caught fire, but once crews arrived, they found that a vehicle was fully on fire, but the fire damage was limited to some melted siding on the house. Some crews were cancelled en route as the crews on-scene were able to put the fire out. The car was destroyed, but the damage to the home was minor. Crews were on the scene for less than an hour.
