The Penguins stumbled last night on their West Coast road trip, surrendering four goals in the third period and losing to the L.A. Kings.
Paul Steigerwald has the story.
Coach Mike Sullivan says it was just a bad performance.
Sullivan says he thought the Pens could come back after being down just a goal after two periods.
The Penguins might be the talk of the league for their inspired play this season, but that wasn’t enough to more than one player into the All-Star game. The Pens’ lone representative for the game in Las Vegas on February 5th is goaltender Tristan Jarry, who before the game last night sported an 18-6-4 record with a 1.91 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. After last night’s loss, in which he made 39 saves against the Kings, his goals-against rose to 2.05, but his save percentage rose to .929. It will be Jarry’s second All-Star appearance.
Jake Guentzel still has a chance to get into the game. He was nominated for the “Last Man In” fan vote for the Metro Division. Each team in each division gets a nominee. The voting is open now at nhl.com.
The Penguins longest road trip of the season continues tomorrow night at San Jose. The sixth and final game of the West Coast swing will be in Vegas on Monday night.
