With the Evergreen Afterschool Club unable to continue offering programming in the new year due to a state funding gap, the River Valley School District will nevertheless continue offering afterschool activities, starting today.
The school board approved the continuation last month. Superintendent Philip Martell says the program will run through the last full week of May. The activities will be from Tuesdays through Thursdays, after school until 6 PM, and on Fridays until 5 PM, with transportation provided as needed. Anyone with questions may contact program Director Jenny Graff-Walker at walker.j@rvsdpa.org.
The funding gap is the result of pandemic delays in the state’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers program. The previous funding expired December 31st and the new funding applications were delayed until this month, with the actual awarding of funds not scheduled until October.
Senator Joe Pittman and Representative Jim Struzzi have written to the State Department of Education requesting a meeting with Evergreen’s representatives.
