It turned into a struggle for the Penguins yesterday, but they managed to hold on against San Jose yesterday to keep their winning streak alive.

Coach Mike Sullivan says it’s not uncommon for teams to jump to a big lead and then have to hold off a rally.
Sullivan says easing up after a fast start is almost inevitable.
Evan Rodrigues has a career-high 13 goals this season and is just two points shy of his career high for points in a season. Rodrigues says it’s natural for teams to ease up after they get up big in a game.
Bryan Rust was happy to return to the lineup and to the top line, where he, Jake Guentzel, and Sidney Crosby have only been together for seven games this season due to injuries and covid.
The Penguins activated Teddy Blueger from the covid list yesterday but after the morning skate, they decided against playing him in the game. Jeff Carter, Kasperi Kapanen, and Tristan Jarry were removed from the active roster for covid protocols.
The Pens also made Jason Zucker’s injured reserve designation retroactive to December 19th and they activated recalled Kasper Bjokqvist, Radim Zohorna, Anthony Angello, and goaltender Louis Domingue from the taxi squad.
Forward Brian Boyle missed the game as he, his wife, and two children welcomed a New Year’s Day baby boy to the family.
The Penguins welcome the Blues to PPG Paints Arena on Wednesday, then visit the Flyers on Thursday.
