The Penguins are finally scheduled to play today against the San Jose Sharks at PPG Paints Arena. The Pens have not played since December 19th because of the NHL hiatus and covid issues.
The Penguins may get first-line wingers Bryan Rust and Jake Guentzel back from the injured list, but not center Evgeni Malkin, who is still recovering from knee surgery.
Defensemen John Marino and Mike Matheson returned from the Pens’ covid list along with forward Dominik Simon yesterday. All three practiced and coach Mike Sullivan said they would be eligible to play today. He did not, however, say they would play. Still on the covid list today are goaltender Tristan Jarry, forwards Jeff Carter, Teddy Blueger, and Kasperi Kapanen, and defenseman P.O. Joseph.
