Organizers with the Blairsville Polar Plunge have decided to postpone this year’s event by one week to January 8th at noon.
Ab Dettorre with the Polar Plunge said that while the water is exceedingly high, that is not the main reason why tomorrow’s event will be postponed.
This year’s Polar Plunge is set to benefit 4-year-old Nannie Meda, a Blairsville elementary student who was diagnosed with B-Cell lymphoblastic leukemia. She is currently in her third phase of chemotherapy treatment and has had complications, but her family is optimistic that she will beat the disease. Meda has to undergo treatments for at least two years and is currently in remission.
The delay of one week will give people more time to register. Participants are asked to donate $20, fill out a registration form and sign a waiver to take part. Forms are available at the Blairsville Community and Recreation Center and can be returned there or brought to the event on January 8th at Noon. Checks are to be made payable to “Friends of Blairsville Parks and Recreation Authority”. Forms and donations can also be mailed to 101 East North Lane, Blairsville, PA 15717.
