Indiana County’s unemployment rate took a sharp drop in November.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Statistics reported that Indiana County’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate went down by eight-tenths of a percentage point over November to 5.7 percent. That matches the statewide unemployment rate, which also saw a drop of three-tenths of a percentage point. The national unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 4.2 percent.
Westmoreland County has a 4.6 percent unemployment rate. Jefferson County’s unemployment rate checked in at 4.9 percent. Clearfield County’s unemployment rate is 5.4 percent. Armstrong County tied with Indiana at 5.7 percent. Cambria County has the highest in the region at 6.7 percent.
The highest unemployment rate in the state is Philadelphia County at 6.8 percent, while the lowest is Chester County at 3.1 percent.
The total number of non-farm jobs in Indiana County went essentially unchanged, remaining at 29,800. Jobs were essentially unchanged in eight of the nine published super-sectors. The only area that saw a significant increase was trade, transportation and utilities, which saw a seasonal increase of 200 jobs.
