A longtime coach in the Laurel Valley School District and a member of Indiana County’s Sports Hall of Fame has passed away.
Jerry Page passed away this morning due to complications from pneumonia. He was inducted into the Indiana County Sports Hall of Fame in May of 2018. Page was well known in both Westmoreland and Indiana Counties as the head coach of the Laurel Valley Rams for both football and baseball. In his 30-year football career, Page amassed a 209-97-5 record, along with 16 appearances in the playoffs. His career at Laurel Valley started in 1961 as an assistant coach, and he started as head coach in 1979. He also had a very successful baseball career that spanned 35 seasons.
But while Page was remembered for his on-field success, United Head Coach Kevin Marabito, who both played for and coached with Page, said that he remembers him for being a person who would inspire his players to do their best.
Former Blairsville Football Coach Ab Detorre said that he had a great deal of respect for Page, calling his death the passing of an era.
Funeral arrangements for Jerry Page have not been announced yet.
