State Police Public Information Officer Trooper Clifford Greenfield says state troopers were a visible presence at schools throughout the region yesterday in response to the nationwide threats against schools posted on TikTok and other platforms.
Starting at 6 o’clock yesterday morning, troopers conducted more than sixty Domestic Security Checks of public and private schools throughout Cambria, Indiana, Somerset and Westmoreland Counties.
Greenfield says it was part of an ongoing effort to reassure students, their families, and school staff and also to provide a highly visible deterrent to anyone who may wish to cause harm. He thanked the “hundreds of teachers, school administrators, and school security officers across our region who have dedicated their lives to educating children and to providing a safe and welcoming learning environment.”
Greenfield also reminded community members to immediately report suspicious activity and potential threats against schools to their local police department. Students can also make anonymous reports through the See Something Send Something smartphone app.
