Another piece of legislation authored by Representative Jim Struzzi passed the House unanimously on Wednesday. Struzzi says it is a key to a bipartisan effort to get more civic groups involved in community projects.
House Bill 1694 would create more opportunities for volunteers to help out in parks and communities by limiting their liability, just as landowners who make portions of their property available to the public for recreational purposes are also protected by state law.
Struzzi says the bill would, ideally, spark more clean-up days to maintain the properties being made available for public recreational use without the volunteers or their groups having to spend a lot of money on insurance. He says that would encourage more groups to participate “without fear of repercussion, should something go wrong.”
