United’s Ben Tomb has signed a letter of intent to play his college baseball at UPJ.
The 6-foot-4 left-hander was 8-1 with an 0.95 ERA for United last year and struck out 143 batters in 58-and-two-thirds innings. He averaged 17.1 strikeouts per seven innings and struck out 11 or more batters in eight of his starts. He also hit .379 with four doubles, three triples, two home runs, and 38 RBIs.
Tomb was joined at a signing ceremony yesterday at United by his parents and two grandparents, his sister, and United coach Doug McNulty.
He’ll be playing college ball for some of his coaches from his summer and travel ball teams, who also coach at UPJ. Tomb chose the school over IUP, Seton Hill, and West Virginia. He will major in civil engineering.
