Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett announces he will forgo the Peach Bowl and prepare for the NFL Draft, where he’s projected to go in the first round. Pickett finished third in the Heisman race this season after leading the Panthers to their first Atlantic Coast Conference football championship.
Star Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III will do the same. He won the Doak Walker award as the nation’s best running back after rushing for more than 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns this season.
The twelfth-ranked Panthers and tenth ranked Spartans meet on December 30. Nick Patti is Pitt’s backup quarterback- he led the Panthers to a modest victory against Delaware two years ago.
Things in Patti’s favor- Michigan State’s pass defense ranked last in the Big 10 this past season and he’ll have all of Pickett’s targets, including Biletnikoff Winner Jordan Addison- to work with.
