On a party line vote, the State Senate yesterday approved a bill that would prevent school students from being required to get covid-19 vaccination in order to attend school in person. Governor Tom Wolf said he would veto the bill if it ever reaches his desk.
Wolf’s office released a statement saying “The administration has no plans to mandate vaccines for K-12 schools so this is nothing more than a waste of time and taxpayer money…” Wolf said Republicans should instead call for all of their constituents to get the vaccine.
State law currently requires students be vaccinated against chicken pox, polio, hepatitis B, diphtheria, and measles, mumps, and rubella. Parents have the option of filing for medical, religious, or philosophical exemptions.
No school district in the state has a policy of requiring the vaccine in order to attend school in person.
