Two area school districts have offered a reaction to Friday’s PA Supreme Court ruling that throws out the masking mandates for K-12 schools.
In a post on the Indiana School District website, Superintendent Michael Vuckovich said that they are awaiting direction from the Department of Education regarding the next steps in the process. Once they have all the necessary information, district parents will be notified. It should be noted that there are a total of 15 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Indiana School District, with six of them at the Senior High, five at Ben Franklin Elementary, Two among the Eisenhower elementary-Junior High population, and one each at Horace Mann and East Pike.
The United School District has also offered a note on their website, saying the district Health and Safety Plan allows for a “mask optional” policy for students and adults at both the elementary and high schools. The elimination of the masking requirements will not change how schools respond to Covid-19 cases in schools, address outbreaks or report data to the PA Department of Health.
It should also be noted that the federal mask mandate for school buses remains in place for now, meaning that masks are required on school buses and all forms of public transportation through March 18th.
