A former elementary school teacher from Indiana has been sentenced to serve five to ten years in state prison for sexually assaulting a child.
61-year-old Patrick McKee pleaded guilty in July to a single felony count of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse with a minor less than 16 years of age. In addition to his prison term, McKee was also ordered by President Judge Thomas Bianco to complete sex offender treatment and register with state police under the state’s Megan’s Law for the rest of his life.
McKee taught school in the Indiana Area School District. The victim reported the crime more than a decade after the assaults took place in 2009. McKee was accused of meeting the victim at a youth sports function and over the course of several months in 2009, grooming the victim prior to the assaults. Indiana Borough Detective John Scherf initiated the investigation immediately and McKee was charged in January.
District Attorney Bob Manzi commended the victim and the victim’s family for coming forward after having endured the effects of the crime for so long.
McKee retired from teaching last year. At the time of his arrest, police asked anyone else who may have experienced similar assaults to come forward, but no further criminal cases were filed.
