A Pittsburgh man was taken into custody last month after a 15-mile state police pursuit through East Wheatfield Township and on to Cramer Pike.
It happened November 24th. State police say a trooper attempted to pull over the speeding vehicle of 24-year-old John Cottrell, who was clocked at 98 miles per hour in a 55 zone on Route 22 near Bowser Road. Rather than stop, Cottrell tried to flee, hitting speeds as high as 120 miles per hour as he swerved in and out of traffic, finally reaching the Route 403 South exit onto Cramer Pike, There, he blew through the stop sign, reaching 80 miles per hour in a 55 zone and 85 in a 35 mile per hour zone on the winding highway. Finally, he abruptly gave up and stopped near Locust Street.
Cottrell, whose was driving on a suspended license, is charged with 29 offenses, including felony fleeing and eluding, plus 28 summary traffic offenses. He posted $500 cash bond and is due for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Susanne Steffee tomorrow.
