One of the four suspects in the robbery and shooting on Valentines Day in 2020 near IUP campus pleaded guilty yesterday to one count that was filed against him.
Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi said that 25-year-old Nafis Harper of Bensalem entered a guilty plea to one felony count of robbery in his plea court session. Harper had been facing numerous charges connected with the incident at two student rental houses in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue. He along with 20-year-old Daron Reel, and 22-year-olds Mamadi Saccoh and Samuel Wilson, all of Philadelphia went to neighboring rental homes to rob them. Police at the time said that Saccoh acted as the driver and lookout for the others as they went to the houses. The three entered the first home demanding drugs, but there were none in the home, and police believe that the first home invasion was an accident. The trio went to the neighboring home after assaulting the occupants of the first house, and during the second robbery, Reel allegedly shot one of the men, with the bullet going through his chin and neck. The victim survived his injuries.
While Reel was already sentenced to serve up to ten years in prison and three years of probation following his release, Wilson is due for a criminal call hearing today, while Saccoh has a criminal call hearing set for January 7th.
Harper’s sentencing hearing is set for February 18th. Between now and then, Manzi said that a pre-sentence investigation will be completed.
