Pennsylvania’s statewide black bear rifle hunting season got underway yesterday and continues today with Sunday hunting. The season ends on Tuesday. A special season will kick in next weekend for selected areas of the state, including the very small portion of southern Indiana County that lies in Wildlife Management Unit 2C.
According to the State Game Commission, no bears were taken in Indiana County yesterday after six were taken in archery and muzzleloader season. Thirty five bears were taken yesterday in Clearfield County, bringing its season total, including muzzleloader and archery, to 64. Jefferson County added 22, making its total 57. Armstrong added 10, to 46. Eight bears were taken in Westmoreland County, making 17 for the year, and Cambria County added eight, totaling 11 for the year.
Indiana County’s three Wildlife Management Units will have an extended turkey hunting season this Wednesday through Friday. Rifle deer season starts on Saturday and runs through December 11th.
