Just weeks after the university announced that it was lifting its indoor mask mandate for the upcoming school year, IUP put out a statement yesterday afternoon that, effective today, masks and face coverings will be required at all campuses and centers, regardless of vaccination status.
The university said on its website that masking will not be required when individuals are alone on campus, but will be in meeting settings, on IndiGo buses, and in other closed settings.
Other mitigation protocols will be in place, including the increased cleaning and air-sanitizing procedures, physical barriers in high-traffic areas, temperature kiosks, touchless water-filling stations, and one-time mask dispensers in buildings. IUP adds that the change in the class schedule for this year allows for more deep cleaning in classrooms and other areas within buildings.
In addition, social distancing will not be required in indoor settings.
IUP said that it has joined the State System of Higher Education Board of Governors, Chancellor Dan Greenstein and state-owned university presidents in encouraging all people to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and that it will continue to monitor guidance from the PA Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
