Two area fire companies were recently awarded funds through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
The Black Lick Volunteer Fire Company announced in a Facebook post that its department was awarded $46,766 in grant funds that will be put toward Operations and Safety. More specifically, the department said that the money will be put towards replacing hoses, nozzles and other accessories.
The Coal Run/McIntyre Fire Department also received AFG funds in the amount of $428,571 that will be put towards a new tanker. The department said in a Facebook post that “this is just the beginning of a long process in which [we] are excited to be a part of.”
The department also thanked Chris Kerber-Galinac for her “endless amount of hours she puts in [to] writing these grants, checking emails, answerering questions and so on.”
AFG grant funds have helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards since 2001.
