The Pirates had trouble with the long ball as they lost the opener of a three-game series in Arizona on Monday night.

Game two of the three-game set is tonight (9:15 airtime on WCCS). Tyler Anderson [5-8, 4.35 ERA] is scheduled to start for the Bucs. Taylor Widener [1-0, 2.54 ER] will start for the D-Backs.
The Pirates yesterday acquired left-handed pitcher Dillon Peters from the Angels for cash considerations. The team assigned him to Indianapolis and to make room for him on the 40-man roster, they designated for assignment reliever Kyle Crick.
Peters is 28 and has pitched in the majors for the Marlins and Angels, compiling a lifetime record of 7-8 record with a 5.38 ERA. Crick, who was acquired from the Giants in the Andrew McCutchen trade. He was 1-1 this season with a 4.44 ERA and is 7-11 overall with a 3.62 ERA in 150 appearances with the Bucs.
The Pirates also yesterday signed another draft choice, 20th-round shortstop Brenden Dixon, who played this year for Weatherford College in Texas.
