They called it “re-opening day” to celebrate the return to full capacity at PNC Park, but it looked a lot like most other days for the struggling Pirates, as they fell to Milwaukee.
Here’s Joe Block.
Manager Derek Shelton says he has a bunch of frustrated Bucco batters, who have managed only four runs in their last four games.
The Pirates’ Adam Frazier won the fan balloting at second base and will be a starter for the National League in the All-Star Game in Colorado on July 13th. Shelton says it was a special moment for the Pirates and their fans when the announcement was made last night.
Frazier says he is honored and it was a great moment when the announcement was made during the game, but there was still business at hand.
Pirates reliever David Bednar also spoke to the media yesterday, about his brother, Will’s performance in the College World Series, where he was named the tournament’s most outstanding player. David was the typical proud big brother.
First baseman Colin Moran was placed in the injured list yesterday after it was learned that his hand injury, suffered when he was hit by a pitch in Colorado on Monday, is a “small fracture”, according to Shelton. The Bucs recalled outfielder Jared Oliva from Indianapolis. Phillip Evans will get most of the time at first base after Erik Gonzalez injured his side in last night’s game. The Pirates may be forced to make another roster move, such as bringing back Will Craig from Indy.
The Pirates will send JT Brubaker to the mound for game two of the series tonight. He is 4-7 with a 3.82 ERA but is only 1-5 with a 5.03 ERA in his last seven starts. Milwaukee counters with Adrian Houser (4-5, 4.16 ERA). Airtime is 6:40 PM on WCCS.
