With summer slated to officially start on Monday, the Pennsylvania State Police in Indiana released some tips for ensuring safety during the summer months.
Troopers emphasize the importance of safety when swimming or boating in a news release, saying that they encourage everyone to keep safety a priority, especially when supervising children engaged in swimming activities.
To ensure that safety remains a priority, troopers offer the following safety tips:
- Ensure swimming pools not in use are secured to prevent unsupervised children from accessing them.
- Keep a close and constant watch over children that are swimming, and provide them with approved floatation devices approved for their skill level.
- Avoid alcohol when swimming, boating and even when supervising children.
- Beware of potential dangers when swimming in rivers, especially low-head dams and jumping from rocks or structures.
- Avoid swimming alone.
