UPDATE: The jury trial for Daron Reel has been continued. No word yet on the new date for the trial. As the trial has been delayed, jury selection for Reel’s trial has also been delayed.
WHAT WAS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED
Jury selection is slated to start today for several cases in Indiana County Court, including one for a suspect in a shooting near IUP campus on Valentines’ Day in 2020.
Daron Reel, a 20-year-old from Philadelphia, faces one count of attempted criminal homicide, two counts each of robbery-inflicting serious bodily injury, robbery-threatening immediate serious injury and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; along with single counts of theft and receiving stolen property. He also faces conspiracy charges to those crimes with the exception of the attempted homicide charge.
Police say Reel along with Nafis Harper, Samuel Wilson and Mamadi Saccoh, all of Philadelphia, went into two student rental homes in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue and robbed them. Reel allegedly shot one of the robbery victims but the man survived.
Harper, Wilson and Saccoh are set for criminal call hearings on May 7th. They face similar charges with the exception of attempted homicide.
