The race for governor of Pennsylvania is beginning to heat up, but only a little.
Former congressman Lou Barletta, the GOP’s failed U.S. Senate candidate in 2018, this week announced that he has formed a political action group to promote his exploration of a run for governor. So did former U.S. Attorney Bill McSwain. Other potential contenders are State Senator Doug Mastriano, Congressman Dan Meuser, former House Speaker Mike Turzai, and several others.
A poll by this week by Politics Pa put Congressman Glenn G.T. Thompson and Senator Pat Toomey as the favorites, but with only 13 percent of the total respondents. Forty six percent said their preference was “somebody else” over the eight candidates listed.
State Attorney General Josh Shapiro is viewed as the solid favorite among Democrats.
