After scoring seven runs in the second inning of Saturday’s game, the Pirates cruised to their second win of the season after beating the Chicago Cubs, 8-2.
Jacob Stallings began the productive inning after he drove in two runs with a single to left center. Adam Frazier and Bryan Reynolds drove in three more after hitting two doubles and Colin Moran capped off the inning with a two-run single to right field. Frazier and Moran combined for four hits and three RBIs on the night.
Phillip Evans finished off the scoring with a solo home run in the sixth – his third of the season. He would finish the night 2-for-3.
Mitch Keller allowed just one run while striking out seven Cubs batters over five innings of work. Duane Underwood took over in the sixth and seventh, where he struck out three hitters. Clay Holmes and Michael Feliz combined for four strikeouts in the final two innings.
With the win, the Pirates snap their six-game losing streak and move to 2-6 on the season. Both teams will wrap up the series on Sunday.
