In Grapefruit League action Friday afternoon, three errors by the Toronto Blue Jays helped the Bucs capture a 2-1 win in Bradenton.
Dustin Fowler drew a walk in his first at-bat and put Pittsburgh on the board in the first after scoring on a jumbled pick-off attempt. Rodolfo Castro would add the second tally for the Pirates in the fifth after circling the bases on an error by Jays left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
On the mound, Chase De Jong threw three scoreless innings in his first spring start, allowing just one hit and striking out one Toronto hitter in the process.
Cole Tucker returned to the diamond after dealing with a hand injury that kept him out of action this spring. On offense, he would leg out a double on a hit to right field in the third and kicked off a 6-3 double play in the second on defense.
The Pirates travel to Tampa tomorrow afternoon to face the New York Yankees. Airtime on WCCS 101.1 FM and AM 1160 is 1 p.m.
