Pitt opens the ACC Tournament this afternoon against the Miami Hurricanes in Greensboro, North Carolina. Pitt is the 12th seed and Miami is No. 13.
Pitt beat Miami, 70-55, on December 16th, but Coach Jeff Capel says they can’t place much stock in that victory since it was so long ago, and both teams have had substantial roster changes since then.
Forward Justin Champagnie was named to the All_ACC first team yesterday. He’s the only player in the conference averaging a double-double, and in fact is the only player in the nation with that status. Champagnie is scoring 18.4 points and pulling down 11.1 rebounds per game. He says the Panthers are together, and are ready for the tournament.
Today’s game tips off at 2, and is on the air on WCCS at 1:30. If Pitt wins, they will play fifth-seeded Clemson tomorrow. Pitt lost to the Tigers by 15 on Saturday.
