The Penguins celebrated Sidney Crosby’s 1,000th career game with a come-from-behind, 3-2 win over the New York Islanders.
Tristan Jarry made 33 saves as the Penguins were outshot, 35-18.
Kris Letang scored his first two goals of the season, including the game-winner in the third period, and Mike Matheson also scored for the Penguins, with a wrist shot after weaving through Islanders in a length-of-the-ice rush and converting a give-and-go from Teddy Blueger to tie the game in the third period.
Crosby picked up two assists in his milestone game.
The win allowed Pittsburgh to leap ahead of the Islanders in the East Division standings to fourth place. The Penguins, at 9-6-1, and Islanders, at 8-6-3, each have 19 points, but the Penguins have a game in-hand.
The Penguins visit Washington on Tuesday and Thursday, both at 7 pm with airtime on U92.5 FM and streaming from U92radio.com at 6 pm.
