State police are investigating several identity theft cases that happened in late January. The first identity theft that was reported yesterday was one that happened on January 21st. Someone used the identity information of a 36-year-old Indiana woman to open a CityBank account. The scammer also opened a fraudulent account with the Kansas Department of Labor and had unemployment benefits transferred to the CityBank Account.
The second case involved a 56-year-old Creekside woman, who reported that someone used her information to open an account with Chase Bank. She is not sure how the scammer got a hold of her information, but the account has since been closed. Investigations are continuing in both incidents.
A Marion Center teenager was the victim of a scam involving gift cards. State police say they were alerted to the scam on February 5th. The fraud occurred as the 18-year-old girl was scammed out of $350 in Steam gift cards. State police ask the public to call them at 724-357-1960 if they have any information on the case.
A Clymer woman is accused of driving under the influence after an incident near the intersection of Airport Road and Route 286. State police say that the 29-year-old woman, who was not named in reports, was pulled over at 11:47 PM after troopers saw several traffic violations. The woman was found to be under the influence of alcohol and taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center for a blood draw. Charges of DUI are pending the toxicology test results.
