Indiana County’s Water Rescue Team was dispatched to help rescue two people after their kayak capsized in the Aultman Run area of the Conemaugh River on Wednesday.
Indiana County 911 reported that Tunnelton, Blairsville and Saltsburg Fire Departments along with Citizens Ambulance were called to Clarksburg Road in Conemaugh Township for the rescue call at 8:36 AM.

Blairsville Fire Department said on its Facebook page that one victim was in the water, clinging to a tree, while the other was still in the kayak. After breaking ice that was one inch thick at the nearby boat launch, inflatable boats were deployed for the rescue efforts. One boat crew was able to rescue the person in the water, while a second boat stayed with the other person, who was able to paddle back to shore. Other rescue crews were able to recover lost belongings.
The victims were not identified in the reports.
