State police investigated two vehicle crashes that happened this past weekend that resulted in injuries.
The first crash was reported at 3:36 PM on Saturday, December 26th on a stretch of Route 259 near Jericho Road in West Wheatfield Township. Police say the driver, identified only as a 16-year-old boy from Robinson, was going South on Route 259 and was going too fast to go through a left curve in the road cleanly. He lost control of the vehicle on a part of the road covered in slush and went into the middle of the roadway before the vehicle rolled.
The boy was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Police say he was cited for speeding.
The other crash was reported the next day on Route 22 in Burrell Township. Troopers say speed was once again a factor in the crash that happened near the intersection of 22 and Corporate Campus Drive. A van driven by 51-year-old Mari Psarakis of Montgomery was going west and was slowing down as she approached the intersection, but she did not slow down quickly enough and rear-ended an SUV driven by 31-year-old Kimberly Lassak of Portage, which rear-ended a truck driven by 52-year-old Robert Pizer of Blairsville.
Psarakis and Pizer had suspected minor injuries and were taken to IRMC by Citizen’s Ambulance for treatment of injuries. The van and SUV were disabled, but the truck was able to be driven away from the scene.
