At Tuesday night’s Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board meeting, the board voted on when and how to hold the hearings to hear testimony in favor or against closing Saltsburg Middle-High School.
By a 6-3 vote, the board approved to hold the hearings on December 16th and if needed, December 17th, at 5:30 PM. According to the approved meeting notice, there will be options for people to attend both virtually and in-person. People wanting to attend in person can meet at the Saltsburg Middle-High School complex, and the district will post directions for the virtual attendance on its website.
At question will be the permanent closure of the Saltsburg middle-high school complex as part of a reorganization of the district. The time was changed to 5:30 to allow board members to get to the meeting site and be ready as soon as they can. The board also hired Dennis Rafferty as a hearing officer.
The board also discussed the recent order from the State Department of Health considering whether the district would go to virtual education, a hybrid format, or keep with their current educational track of four in-person days and Wednesdays being a virtual learning day. The board approved signing a statement to be sent to the Department of Health that attests the district will follow all coronavirus prevention protocol and stay with their current format with the district taking the week after Thanksgiving and the week after the Christmas break for all-virtual learning.
