The Penguins yesterday promoted director of amateur scouting Patrik Allvin to assistant general manager. Allvin has worked multiple jobs for the Penguins since joining the franchise in 2006. It’s the next step in GM Jim Rutherford’s reshaping of the front office.
Allvin replaces longtime Rutherford assistant Jason Karmanos, who was fired last week.
Allvin says he has a lot to learn working with the Hall of Famer Rutherford.
Known for his prowess in scouting Europe, Allvin says the team will continue to look for players who fit the Penguins mold.
The Penguins also promoted Sam Ventura, who had been the interim GM replacing Karmanos, to director of hockey operations, where he will work with Allvin on salary cap and other financial areas. Rutherford says Erik Heasley will continue to serve as interim GM Of Scranton/Wilkes Barre, and he won’t name a permanent GM for the Pens’ top farm team.
