A former director of the IUP libraries has made a contribution for library support and scholarships at IUP.
According to a news release, retired Library director William Lafranchi made a donation of $135,000 to the university. The money will be used to establish the William and Sylvia Lafranchi Sutton Scholarship, which will be used to help students pursuing a degree in nursing. The money will also be used for the William and Sylvia Lafranchi Library Endowment to provide funding for IUP’s libraries. A portion of the money will be added to the Dr. Tony Atwater and Dr. Beverly Roberts Atwater Presidential Scholars Fund to provide support to freshman students at IUP.
Lafranchi, a native Brookville who now lives in Verona, joined Indiana State College, now IUP, in 1953 and served as the director of Libraries and Media Services until his retirement in 1986.
The gift is part of the University’s Imagine Unlimited campaign.
