IUP has announced that classes will continue as scheduled for the rest of the fall semester and a change for the upcoming spring semester.
In an announcement on the IUP website, the university said they will continue to work under the fall re-balancing plan for the Spring 2021 semester. The plan is meant to reduce the spread of Covid-19 by reducing the population on campus. On-campus move-in will take place on January 16th and 17th and the semester is scheduled to begin on the 19th. The last day of classes will be on May 3rd as scheduled, but IUP has cancelled their week-long spring break. Instead, the university will incorporate five non-class days into the schedule to allow for shorter breaks scattered throughout the year. The dates have not been finalized as of yet.
IUP also announced that classes for the Fall 2020 semester will end as scheduled on December 7th, with finals scheduled for December 8th to the 11th. Thanksgiving break is still scheduled for November 23rd to the 27th, with classes resuming the following Monday. Residence halls will be closed during Thanksgiving break and reopen on the 28th. Students who need housing during the Thanksgiving and the December breaks will be able to take advantage of “break housing” from the university.
Some things that remain up in the air include how commencement ceremonies for December 2020 and May of 2021 will be held. The University is also awaiting word on the fate of winter and spring sports from the PSAC and the NCAA.
