Today, restaurants can start the self-certification process to increase their capacity to 50 percent of their occupancy.
The Wolf administration announced earlier this month that restaurants could go to 50 percent capacity if they complete a self-certification process to make sure that their establishment follows guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Self-certification documents are set to be posted online today about the “Open and Certified Pennsylvania” program. The documents include a list of requirements contained in the current restaurant industry guidance and enforcement efforts, a statement that the owner has received and reviewed the requirements and agrees to follow them, the establishment’s maximum indoor capacity according to fire code, and a statement that the owner understands the certification is subject to penalties for un-sworn falsification to authorities.
The self-certification is optional, but businesses who do not self-certify can only operate at 25 percent capacity. The process must be completed by October 5th for businesses that want to open up to 50 percent capacity today. After the process is completed, they will receive Open and Certified Pennsylvania-branded materials and have the establishment added to a state-wide searchable online database of certified restaurants.
The governor’s office has posted a frequently asked questions page and an email address if anyone has further questions.
