A former SCI Pine Grove inmate was found guilty of killing his cellmate in 2019.
Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi yesterday announced that a jury in Indiana County Court pronounced 43-year-old Dwight Darnell Bowen guilty of third degree murder.
Bowen was serving time at SCI Pine Grove in Indiana County when on January 1st of 2019, he killed 32-year-old Luis Antonio Santiago. Police said that Bowen had called for prison guards shortly after 10:00 PM. They found him at his cell window and Santiago lying on the floor, unresponsive, without a pulse and not breathing. Santiago was pronounced dead at Indiana Regional Medical Center, and an autopsy the next day established the cause of death as asphyxia due to venous obstruction.
Bowen had been serving a life sentence in prison for guilty pleas to the 2001 murders of two toddlers, ages 3 and 1 in Philadelphia. The two were killed in a Molotov cocktail firebombing of a row house after a dispute between Bowen and another man. Bowen is currently serving his sentence at SCI-Houtzdale.
Sentencing is set for November 13th.
